It's been a long time since one of my book friends has sent me this novel, and even though this book is all about winter holidays, I couldn't resist it anymore.
My Hygge Holiday
is the warmest book you're going to read this year.
Clara came to the little town of Yulethorpe, just to find everything falling apart. A little toy shop - the only shop in the city - has just been closed.
And that is exactly what gave Clara a very interesting idea. Decided to show people in Yulenthorpe that there is still hope, she asks the owner of the shop to let her take care of it for a while. Clara is a woman with a vision, and soon enough her vision becomes reality.
There are more clients in the shop than ever before. Even Joe, the Very Busy son of the owner can't deny that.
But will the career-focused man be able to see there is more to life than work, obligations, and anxiety?
After all, you can't make a person live a hygge life if the person doesn't want to. But with Joe, Clara will still try.
This is definitely not the usual romance novel. It's a story on how to live a cozy and comfortable life in mids of insane schedules, a bunch of obligations and just too many stressful days.
It's a book that will show us that details are crucial in making our everyday life relaxed and happy.
How to read it? It's very simple, actually. The same way we should read every other book: light a few (maybe scented) candles, put a warm cup of coffee or tea somewhere where you can easily reach it, put some nice blanket over your feet and let your furry pet jump on your lap. Close your eyes briefly and let yourself be absorbed into the hygge moment.
If you've ever read books about hygge, you know it's not complicated to make every moment the most tranquil and soothing. This novel is also very simple. We have a young Danish woman trying to live a normal life after learning a hard lesson in how to treat your loved ones. Clara has once led a stressful, almost meaningless life, working nonstop, neglecting things she cared most about. She made a mistake that has cost her dearly and made her change her life completely. Now she has decided to take her time, enjoy little things, build relationships with the people she's met and appreciate life.
Clara shows us how much simpler would life become if only we would take our time to really look at all the things we can make better. Do we enjoy the view from our window on a snowy morning? Do we take a walk on a warm starry night? Why don't we appreciate the beauty in things around us instead of wasting time on things we can't change?
If you enjoy reading manuals on hygge, you should put this novel on the top of your TBR list. It's a heartwarming story, full of refreshing characters and funny moments that will make you fall in love in all in life that is simple and really meaningful.
