Review: T.M.Frazier: King

"There are two sides to every argument. Two ways to be wrong. Two ways to be right."
(King by T.M.Frazier)

I cannot believe it has been 4 years since this novel was published. The problem with having an e-reader full of books you just have to read (that is constantly growing) is that very often books get lost in a bunch, and you stumble over them many years later. That's what happened with
Once upon a time, I was so in love with this cover (and I still am) that I was obsessing over this book all over social media. When I found it a few days ago, I just knew it was time to finally read and review it.

"I’d never both hated and wanted something so much in my entire life."

I don't remember who I am or how did I get here. I don't even know where I am. I'm hungry, I'm lost and I see no hope.
My best friend is a hooker I just met and she's taking me to a party where I will sell my body to a man, in hopes he will feed and protect me.
But my plans are ruined when I meet him.
They call him King and now I owe him. He says I'm his to do what he wants with me.
I hate him. He's an animal. He's cruel. He's a killer.
But he also has a soul. He makes me feel things I never felt.
He makes me feel safe, at home and loved.
But he will hurt me. More than anyone ever did.
I hate him so much. I want him even more.

"Because when it comes to me and mine, I am the judge. I am the jury. And if need be, I am the motherfucking executioner.

Ohhh, it has been so long since I've read dark romance, and this baby was such a pleasure to read!
Everybody, bow to the King!
A true bad boy, merciless, coldblooded, arrogant, King is a person you will love to hate. He's a guy with a goal, one that will choose a path most of us would avoid at any cost. He will choose to sacrifice one person he loves, just to save another one.

“But stop trying to imagine what it would be like without your memory.
You’re lucky you know who you are and where you belong.”
King pulled at the label on his beer and sighed. “Sometimes, I wish I didn’t.”

"Just because he was a very bad boy, that doesn’t mean he couldn’t be a truly great man."

But the truly complicated character here is not King at all. Even though everything points in a direction of him being the one making all the big decisions, Doe is the one with a much more power, even though nor her nor us know it.

The secondary characters bring even more out of the primary ones, the dialogues bring dynamics into the storytelling and if that isn't enough, there's the cliffhanger at the end of this book, and let me tell you, it will blow your mind. This is a book for mature (18+) audience, with somewhat graphic violence and explicit sexual scenes.
Be sure to enjoy it just like it is.

If you decide to read King today, you should be warned. The story of Doe and Kind is narrated in two novels, Kind and Tyrant, aaaand the best part is, there are 6 more books in this series, featuring other characters we get to know in the book no.1. So just so you know, just like me, once you get your hands on one of the books in this series, you will not be able to stop reading and loving them.

"I’d found myself again in the haunted eyes of a girl who was just as lost as I was.
Or maybe, we didn’t find each other at all.
Maybe, we just decided to be lost together."
